In-house designers versus freelance designers

Our designers are all in-house. We do not make use of freelance designers.

We have nothing against freelance designers. Most of them are reliable, hard-working, talented people. The problem is that we want to be sure that our designers are always contactable and accountable.

Design firms that make use of freelance designers sometimes have difficulty getting hold of the designer, resulting in delayed delivery of the product to the client. With our in-house designers we know we'll see them in the studio every working day during office hours.

As for accountability: A freelance designer can copy an existing design and pass it off as their own. They can also get away with it for a while, but eventually they will be found out. When this happens, a freelance designer can simply disappear. Zero accountability. They probably have 20 or 30 design houses outsourcing work to them so losing one is not the end of the world.

With in-house designers it's very different. They know that getting caught copying an existing design equals getting fired, so they have a massive incentive to ensure that their work is always 100% original.
